BRONCS DROP FINALE AT UL-LAFAYETTE

LAFAYETTE, LA –Louisiana-Lafayette scored in each of their first five at-bats and defeated The University of Texas-Pan American’s baseball team, 13-3, in the third and final game of their three-game series at Tigue Moore Field Sunday afternoon.

The Broncs scored early. They took the lead in the top of the first inning when sophomore third baseman Matt Sisk (Fort Worth, TX/Arlington Heights HS/New Mexico) walked and scored on a double by junior designated hitter Jarrad Maddox (Houston, TX/Jersey Village HS/Northern Arkansas JC). Maddox scored on an error to give ITPA a 2-0 lead.

UL-Lafayette regained the lead for good in their first at-bat. Shortstop Chase Lambin and right fielder Corey Coles each walked, and both scored on a double by left fielder Bryan Sneed. First baseman Phillip Hawke knocked in another run with a single, center fielder Charles Redmond tripled home two more runs, and another scored on an error by freshman right fielder Tony Ortiz (Fort Worth, TX/Nolan HS).

The Broncs cut the deficit in the second. Freshman second baseman Marco Garza (Mission, TX/Sharyland HS) singled and was forced at second by freshman center fielder Jonathan Mason (San Antonio, TX/Jay HS). Mason moved to second on a single by junior shortstop Jerome McCoy (Fort Worth, TX/Eastern Hills HS/Northeast Texas CC), stole third and scored on a throwing error by starting pitcher Kevin Ardoin.

Sneed homered in the bottom of the second for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Coles hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and catcher Doug Vicknair hit solo homers in the third and fifth.

Ardoin earned the victory for UL-Lafayette, improving to 1-0. UTPA starter Justin Dowd (Sr. Waxahachie, TX/Waxahachie HS/Navarro JC) took the loss and fell to 0-2.

The Broncs fell to 2-14 with the defeat, while the Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 10-3. The Broncs will return to action when they play Southwest Texas State at the Round Rock Express College Classic Friday at 11:00 a.m.
