HOST CENTENARY IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
EDINBURG,
TX–All good things must come to an end. And
The University of Texas-Pan American men’s basketball team’s 2001-2002
regular season will come to an end when the Broncs host Centenary Monday
evening at the UTPA Fieldhouse. UTPA brings
a 20-9 record into the game. The Broncs have won 20 games for the first
time in 12 years, and, with 12 victories at home this year, can record
their most home wins in a season since they won 13 during the 1993-94
season. Five
seniors will be honored prior to the game. Guard Quinn Canada (Houston,
TX/Reagan HS/Southern Union State CC), forward DeFrance Gurley (Cairo,
GA/Cairo HS/Southern Union State CC), forward Joey Tate (San Antonio,
TX/Jay HS/Temple JC), center Marcus Quinn (Midwest City, OK/Choctaw
HS/Eastern Oklahoma State) and guard Mire Chatman (Garland, TX/South
Garland HS/Southwestern Christian JC) will all be honored. Centenary
is 15-12. The Gentlemen have lost their last two games after defeating
Arkansas Baptist February 16th. The Gents defeated the
Broncs, 61-58, at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, LA February 2nd
on Andrew Wisniewski’s three-pointer with less than two seconds
remaining. “Centenary
is a good team, they’ve beaten some good teams, and they beat us at
their place,” said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “We are hoping for a
big crowd for our last regular season home game, and for our seniors.
Our seniors have done a great job, and they deserve it.” Tip-off
