CHATMAN NAMED TO ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM EDINBURG, TX–The University
of Texas-Pan American’s senior guard, Mire Chatman (Garland, TX/South
Garland HS/Southwestern JC) has received yet another honor. Chatman has been named to the Division I All-Defensive team by CollegeInsider.com. The team includes 16 players, and among the members are Duke’s Dahntay Jones, Fresno State’s Melvin Ely and John Linehan of Providence. Chatman currently ranks third
among NCAA Division I players in both points (26.2 points per game) and
steals (3.6 per game). He had eight steals in a game twice during the
season, once against Sul Ross State November 17th, and once
against New Mexico State February 11th. UTPA finished the
regular season with a 20-10 record. “It’s a great honor for
Mire to be included with some of the elite players in the country,”
said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “It’s a great honor for him and
four our program. Mire is as good a player as I’ve ever had at
changing the momentum of the game by making steals and defensive stops.
He had a knack for making great plays to change the momentum of the
game.” “It’s a great honor to be
named to a team with those guys, coming from an independent school,”
said Chatman. “I would like to thank the team and the coaching staff
once again for helping me to receive this honor. I am pleased to
represent our team, our school and also the independent teams.” MBB-27-02-030602 |
