MIRE CHATMAN ADDS TWO MORE HONORS

EDINBURG, TX–The University of Texas-Pan American’s senior guard, Mire Chatman (Garland, TX/South Garland HS/Southwestern JC) has been honored again.

Chatman has been named to the Mid-Major All-America team by CollegeInsider.com. He was also named All-District Seven by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

The Mid-Major All-American team includes 21 players. Chatman was the only player chosen from an independent team. The All-District Seven Team includes players from Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, and Chatman was one of ten players selected.

Chatman currently ranks third among NCAA Division I players in both points (26.2 points per game) and steals (3.6 per game). He scored 46 points against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi February 9th, the third highest single-game total among NCAA Division I players this season. His 44 points February 11th against New Mexico State tied him for the seventh highest single-game total.

”I was pleased to see Mire honored by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association,” said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “They cover basketball on a regular basis, and it’s good to see that they recognized his play. I was also pleased to see Mire named to the Mid-Major All-America Team. It’s a great credit to him, to our program, to our administration, and to our university. These awards are a reflection not only of his play, but the play of our entire team, and the hard work put in by our coaching staff and everyone connected with the program.”

“Once again, I would like to give all the credit to my teammates, and to our coaching staff,” said Chatman. “It’s great to be honored, but without our team and our coaches, I would not have received all these awards.”
