CHATMAN HONORED BY BASKETBALL TIMES
EDINBURG,
TX–The University of Texas-Pan American’s senior guard, Mire Chatman
(Garland, TX/South Garland HS/Southwestern Christian JC), has received
another honor. Chatman has
been named to the All-Southwest Region Team by Basketball Times. Chatman was
one of five players chosen from the region, which includes colleges in
Texas and Oklahoma. Chatman
ranked third among NCAA Division I players in both points (26.2 points
per game) and steals (3.6 per game) this season. He scored 46 points
against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi February 9th, the fourth
highest single-game total among NCAA Division I players this season. His
44 points February 11th against New Mexico State tied him for
the eighth highest single-game total. He was the Most Valuable Player in
the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico in December, was named to the
Division I All-defensive team, Independent Player of the year, and a
Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com, and was named All-District
by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United
States Basketball Writers’ Association. The Broncs
posted a 20-10 record this season, their best in 12 years, and received
consideration for a berth in the National Invitational Tournament. “That’s
great, that’s a big-time honor,” said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman.
“Basketball Times is a respected publication, and it’s great
to see that they recognized his play. Once again, the awards that have
gone to Mire and our team are a credit to him, as well as our team, the
athletic program and our entire university. It’s great to see all the
hard work pay off once again.” MBB-30-02 032702 |
