SET SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMPS
EDINBURG, TX–Reservations are now
being taken for the Bronc Basketball Summer Camps, directed by The
University of Texas-Pan American Head Coach Bob Hoffman this summer. An individual and team camp will
take place Friday, June 28th through Tuesday, July 2nd,
while a pee wee camp is scheduled to be held during the mornings of July
18th, 19th and 20th. Both camps will
take place on the UTPA campus. The individual and team camp will
emphasize fundamentals of basketball. Campers will learn fundamentals,
and have a chance to apply what they learn in actual game settings. The
camp is for boys ages 8 to 18. Campers will dine in the UTPA cafeteria,
and stay in the UTPA dormitories. Teams may attend the cam together, and
will remain as a group during the games. The pee wee camp is for boys and
girls ages 5-8. Campers will also learn basic fundamentals, and will
have the opportunity to participate in games. The camp staff will
include Bronc players and coaches, and will gave campers an opportunity
to have fun and learn the game of basketball at the same time. “This is one of the highlights of
our year,” said Hoffman. “It’s a great chance to spend time at the
grass roots level of basketball, and to remind ourselves what the sport
truly is about. Last year’s camp was the largest in recent memory, and
this year’s should be at least as big, if not bigger. Attending our
camp will give players a chance to stay overnight at UTPA, and work with
the coaches and players and staff who were instrumental in our team
having a great season.” In his third season at UTPA this
past season, Hoffman led the Broncs to their best season is 12 years,
finishing with a 20-10 record and receiving consideration for a berth in
the National Invitational Tournament. The Broncs finished as the top
NCAA Division I independent team in the nation, won the championship at
the San Juan Shootout, and went 12-2 at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Broncs
ranked 14th nationally in field goal percentage, and 24th
in Division I teams in scoring, was ranked as high as 14th in
the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll, and drew the second largest crowd
in UTPA history for the final home game of the season. Hoffman was named
National Independent Coach of the Year. For more information, or to register, call the Bronc basketball office at 956-381-2870 or at 888-776-0017. MBB-33-02 0042602 |
