: The Broncs outscored Air Force, 7-1, in overtime, to win, 58-52, before a crowd of 4575 fans-one of the largest home crowds in UTPA men’s basketball history.

The Broncs overcame a 17-point deficit early in the second half and came back to defeat Baylor, 72-66, in the championship game of the San Juan Shootout Saturday evening.

The Broncs advanced to the championship game of the San Juan Shootout with a 67-58 victory over Oral Roberts in the semi-finals Friday afternoon.

11/14/01-Broncs Sign First Recruit For Next Fall: The UTPA men’s basketball team has added its first recruit for next fall. Delvis Diaz, a 6-7 forward from South Plains College in Levelland, TX, and John Jay HS in San Antonio, will join the Broncs.

10/03/01-KSOX to Broadcast All Men's Basketball Games: For the second consecutive season, AM 1240-KSOX Monster Sports Radio will broadcast all of the University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s basketball games.

9/26/01-Davenport Named Associate Head Coach: Robert Davenport’s efforts have been instrumental in the success of Head Coach Bob Hoffman’s teams at the University of Texas-Pan American. As a result, Davenport has been named Associate Head Basketball Coach at UTPA.

9/26/01-Home Opener Rescheduled: The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s basketball exhibition game against Monterrey Tech has been rescheduled. The game has been rescheduled 
for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 6th at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

EDINBURG, TXThe University of Texas-Pan American Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Hoffman announced on Wednesday the hiring of Mark VanCuren as the Bronc’s new assistant basketball coach.  

 

UTPA Announces 2001-02 Men’s Basketball Schedule
EDINBURG, TXThe University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the upcoming 2001-02 men’s basketball schedule.  This year’s schedule includes 14 home contests at the UTPA Fieldhouse where the Broncs posted a stellar 9-2 mark last season.

EDINBURG, Tex - The University of Texas-Pan American Men’s Basketball Program announced that Kevin Mitchell has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Broncs next season. Mitchell is a 6-2 guard from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.

The University of Texas-Pan American Men’s Basketball program announced today that highly touted high school recruit, Derrick East, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the up-and-coming Bronc program.

11/20/00 - Preseason All-Independent Men’s Basketball Team Named, Hicks Named Most Valuable: There were few surprises in the voting for the 2000-01 Preseason All-Independent Team and Most Valuable Player Voting.  Michael Hicks of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was named Preseason Player of the Year, after earning the honor for the 2000-01 season.
