UT-Pan American Bronc Golf Squad Falls to Nebraska in Dual Event at South Padre C.C.
EDINBURG -- The University of Texas-Pan American golf team took on the University of Nebraska in a dual event Sunday afternoon at the South Padre Island Golf Club. Nebraska won the unique two-team event, behind the play of Rob Arthur, 472-485.
Both UT-Pan American and Nebraska used this weekend as a tune up for the upcoming season. Each school competed with six golfers. Santiago de Larrea and Todd Grubert were the bright spots for the Broncs. De Larrea turned in a final total of 77, including five birdies, to lead the Broncs. Grubert was one stroke behind de Larrea with a score of 78. Ramiro Garcia shot an 81, Stephen Slaughter fired an 82, while Miguel de los Santos and Albert Moncada turned in scores of 83 and 84 respectively.
Arthur who finished two strokes over par at 74 led the University of Nebraska. Mike Vanier fired a 75, and Andy McCabe shot a 77. Seth Porter was the fourth Nebraska golfer to finish under 80, turning in a final score of 78. Both Marty Smith and Himesh Patel shot 84’s.
The Broncs officially open the spring season in Victoria, Texas, at the Southwest Classic on February 21st and 22nd.
