UT Pan American Men’s Golf Off to Solid Start at Arkansas-Little Rock Tournament
LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – The University of Texas-Pan American shot a first-round 298, helping the Broncs to 11th place after the first day of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Intercollegiate, played at the Chanal Country Club on Monday.
Stephen Slaughter led the way for the Broncs, shooting an opening round 71, his lowest round of the season. Slaughter is tied for 17th overall after two rounds with a 150. Santiago DeLarrea is tied for 38th after the first day with a 155, which included a first round 74. Juan Elizondo and Ramiro Garcia are just one stroke back at 156, tied for 43rd. Miguel de los Santos is in 69th place with a first day total of 163.
Leading the way individually is Grant Yawn of Southwest Texas State with a six-under par 138. His first round 66 is the lowest of the tournament so far. Just two strokes back is Daniel Fox of Arkansas-Little Rock with a 140, including a second round 67.
Overall host Arkansas-Little rock is off to a big lead with a two-round total of 583. In second place overall is Southwest Texas State with a 596. They are closely followed by McNeese State with a 597 and the Arkansas-Little Rock “B” team with a 598. The Broncs are in 11th place with a 617. The Broncs opening round 298 is their third lowest round this season.
The UALR Intercollegiate wraps up on Tuesday with the third and final round of the tournament.
