UT-Pan American Men’s Golf Finishes 15th at Crown Classic
LUFKIN, TEXAS – Toby Grubert finished 27th overall, leading the University of Texas-Pan American men’s golf team to a 15th place finish at The Crown Classic Golf Tournament, held at the Crown Colony Country Club.
Grubert, a freshman from Bastrop, shot a three-round total of 234 in his first tournament as a Bronc. Grubert finished with a round of 77 to put him in a tie for 27th overall. He was closely followed by another freshman teammate, Santiago De Larrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil). De Larrea shot a 236 to finish in a tie for 37th. Jordan Bunte, a freshman from Houston finished in a tie for 61st with a total of 243. Steven Slaughter was 84th with a 252 and Ramiro Garcia was 88th with a 258.
Trey Pyka of Texas Tech and Aaron Pellegrom of Baylor tied for medallist honors as both players shot a 222. Jimmy Walker of Baylor, Ean Davis of Lamar and Fernando Espericuert of North Texas all tied for third, just one stroke back at 223.
Lamar had three players finish in the top 20 overall to take the team title at 904, three strokes ahead of Baylor and four strokes ahead of Texas Tech. Host Stephen F. Austin took fourth place with a 922, 18 strokes out of the lead. UT-Pan American was 15th with a three-round total of 961.
The Broncs will return to action in the Lamar Invitational on October 4-5 at the Columbia Lakes Country Club in West Columbia, Texas.
