Garcia Top Finisher For UT-Pan American Bronc Golf

WEST COLUMBIA (TX) -- The University of Texas Pan American Men’s Golf Team finished 14th at the Lamar Invitational, hosted by Lamar University.

UTPA ended the three round tournament with a total score of 945.  Stephen F. Austin walked away with team medallist honors with a score of 883 only 19 strokes over par.  Host Lamar University brought home second place with a team total of 895, 31 strokes over par.  Steve Swonnell of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock earned individual medallist honors shooting a 74 and 73 on the first day and a 69 in the final round.

Ramiro Garcia fired an opening round 75 and followed that up with a 77 and a 78, this gave him a total of 230 (+14) and was good enough for a 33rd place finish.  Jordan Bunte finished with score of 234 and a share of 47th.  Bunte shot a second round 76, his lowest of the fall.   Steven Slaughter ended the two day event with a score of 240, which placed him 58th.  Santiago DeLarrea (245) and Todd Grubert (248) finished 71st and 75th respectively.

The UTPA men’s golf team returns to action on November 12 at the Oral Roberts Invitational in Tulsa, Okla.
