AT BORDER OLYMPICS
LAREDO,
TX –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team
finished 17th at the 17-team Border Olympics, at the Laredo Country
Club. The Broncs shot a final0-round score of 301
Saturday, giving them a 54-hole total of 922, placing them 24 shots
behind Rice. Junior Omar Halldorsson (Akureyri, Iceland/Schola Aknreyrensis) led the Broncs, shooting a final-round score of 74 for a 54-hole total of 226, good for a tie for 63rd place. Sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot a score of 74 for a total of 229, good for a tie for 75th place. Sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) shot a 76, for a total of 235, good for 87th place. Freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot a 77, good for a score of 236 and 88th place. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Victoria, Spain/Colegio Miguel de Cervantes) shot a 78, good for a score of 239 and 90th place. The Broncs will play their final tournament of the semester at the National Minority Golf Championships May 10-13 at the PGA Headquarters in Port St. Lucie, Florida. UTPA
