BRONCS 19TH AFTER SECOND DAY AT FURMAN INTERCOLLEGIATE

GREENVILLE, SC –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team is in 19th place at the 24-team Furman Intercollegiate Classic, at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Broncs shot a second-round score of 312, for a 36-hole total of 621. They are seven shots behind Charlotte, and two strokes ahead of Old Dominion.

The host Paladins and Coastal Carolina are tied for the lead with two-round scores of 583. Virginia Tech is third at 584, East Carolina next at 587, and Wofford is fifth at 592. Following are Ohio State at 598, Francis Marion at 600, North Carolina-Wilmington at 601, Charleston Southern at 604, Western Carolina and Tennessee-Chattanooga at 606, Virginia and Memphis at 607, North Carolina-Greensboro and Marshall at 608, Appalachian State at 611, and Richmond at 613. Following Old Dominion are Winthrop at 624, the Furman B team at 628, Davidson at 631 and The Citadel at 649.

Freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) led the Broncs, shooting a 75 for a 36-hole score of 153, leaving him tied for 53rd place. Sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS), senior Santiago DeLarrea (Victoria, Spain/Colegio Miguel de Cervantes) and sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) are all tied for 77th with scores of 157. Piper shot a second-round score of 77, DeLarrea shot a 79 and Celedon shot an 89. Freshman Marlin Manley (Hampton, VA/Bethel HS)Junior Omar Halldorsson (Akureyri, Iceland/Schola Aknreyrensis) shot a second-round score of 83, good for a two-day total of 160 and a tie for 107th place.

The tournament will conclude Sunday.
