Immediate Release: March 24, 2002 BRONCS TIE
FOR 21ST AT FURMAN INTERCOLLEGIATE
GREENVILLE,
SC –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team tied
for 21st place at the 24-team Furman Intercollegiate Classic,
at the Furman University Golf Course. The Broncs shot a final-round score of 309, for a
54-hole total of 930, tying them with the Furman B team. They finished
five strokes behind Winthrop, seven strokes ahead of Davidson and 40
shots ahead of The Citadel. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Victoria, Spain/Colegio
Miguel de Cervantes) led the Broncs, shooting a final round score of 75
for a 54-hole total of 232, allowing him to finish in a tie for 72nd
place. Freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot an 80 for a total
of 233, tying him for 80th place. Sophomore Ben Piper
(Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) shot a 77, good for a total of 234 and a tie
for 87th place. Sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg
North HS) shot a 79, good for a total of 236 and a tie for 93rd.
Junior Omar Halldorsson (Akureyri,
Iceland/Schola Aknreyrensis)
shot a 78 for a total of 238, tying him for 103rd place.
