Immediate Release: October 22, 2001 BRONCS 11TH AFTER FIRST DAY AT LA. TECH INVITATIONALCALHOUN, LA –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team is in 11th place after the first day of action Monday at the Louisiana Tech Invitational Tournament. UTPA scored 626 on the first day of action. The Broncs’ 36-hole total placed them three strokes behind 10th place Northeastern State (LA), and four in back of ninth-place Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis. Oklahoma Christian was first at 593, and Air Force second at 598. John Huerta was the leader for the Broncs. His scores of 76 and 78 were good for a two-day total of 154, and a tie for 24th place. Santiago De Larrea and Ben Piper each shot 80-77-157, and tied for 36th. Omar Halldorsson tied for 53rd, with a score of 79-81-160. Ricky Benavides was tied for 59th at 161 after rounds of 82 and 79. The tournament will conclude Tuesday. ##
