FOR NINTH AT MOE O’BRIEN
LAKE
CHARLES, LA –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf
team finished in a tie for ninth place at the Moe O’Brien Memorial
Golf Tournament, which was hosted by McNeese State University and
concluded Tuesday at the Lake Charles Country Club. The tournament
included two rounds, since one round was eliminated Monday due to
inclement weather. The Broncs shot a 313 on the second and final day of action, and their 36-hole total of 615 tied them with New Orleans. Oklahoma City won the tournament with a score of 580, followed by the host Cowboys at 587, Cameron at 591, Nicholls State at 599, Louisiana-Monroe and Stephen F. Austin at 600, Louisiana Tech at 601, and Southwest Texas State at 610. The Broncs were followed by Jackson State at 622, Newman at 624, and Indian Hills CC at 625. Junior Omar Halldorsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) led the Broncs Tuesday, shooting a second-round score of 75. He finished with a 36-hole total of 149, good for a tie for 18th place. Freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot an 80 Tuesday and tied for 28th place at 153. Sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) also shot an 80, and tied for 45th place at 156. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) shot a 78 and tied for 55th at 157, while junior James Aleman (Corpus Christi, TX/Richard King HS) shot an 83, and tied for 67th at 162. The Broncs will return to action when they visit South Carolina-Aiken for the Cleveland Collegiate Tournament March 17th.
