BRONCS SEVENTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF ACTION AT SWTSU

VICTORIA, TX –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team is tied for seventh place after the first day of action at the 54-hole, two-day Udamon Southwest Classic, hosted by Southwest Texas State University at the Victoria Country Club.

The Broncs’ 36-hole total of 613 matched that of the host Bobcats. UTPA and SWTSU lead Stephen F. Austin by one stroke, Rice by five and Iowa State by 12 shots.

Baylor leads with a score of 587, followed by Oral Roberts at 589, Wichita State at 597, Texas-San Antonio at 603, New Mexico State at 605, and Louisiana Tech at 612.

Sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) of the Broncs was tied for 16th at 151. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was tied for 19th at 152, freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) tied for 26th at 153, senior Ricky Benavides (Brownsville, TX/UT-Brownsville) tied for 47th at 157, and sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) was 55th at 161.

The tournament will conclude with a single round Tuesday.
