SEVENTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF ACTION AT SWTSU
VICTORIA,
TX –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team is tied
for seventh place after the first day of action at the 54-hole, two-day
Udamon Southwest Classic, hosted by Southwest Texas State University at
the Victoria Country Club. The
Broncs’ 36-hole total of 613 matched that of the host Bobcats. UTPA
and SWTSU lead Stephen F. Austin by one stroke, Rice by five and Iowa
State by 12 shots. Sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) of the Broncs was tied for 16th at 151. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was tied for 19th at 152, freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) tied for 26th at 153, senior Ricky Benavides (Brownsville, TX/UT-Brownsville) tied for 47th at 157, and sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) was 55th at 161.
