UTPA Men’s Golf Team in 14th Place After First Day of Udamon Southwest Classic

VICTORIA, TEXAS – Rudy Celedon and Santiago DeLarrea are tied for 49th to lead the University of Texas-Pan American after the first day of the Udamon Southwest Classic, held at the Victoria Country Club.

Celedon, a freshman from Edinburg, shot rounds of 77 and 78 in just his second tournament as a Bronc.  DeLarrea, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, shot rounds of 76 and 79 for his total of 155.  Stephen Slaughter is just two strokes behind the pair, with a two-round total of 157 (79-78).  James Aleman has a total of 158 and Ricky Benavides has a 164.

Jimmy Walker of Baylor is leading the tournament, after day one, with a two-round total of 139 (-5).  Daniel Fox of Arkansas-Little Rock is just three strokes back at 142, while Daniel Puunberg of UALR is just four strokes back at 143.

In the team competition, Arkansas-Little Rock leads the way at 576 with Baylor just five strokes back at 581.  Lamar is third with a total of 588 and Rice is fourth with a 593.  UTPA is 14th with a 625.

Play will conclude on Tuesday with the final round of the three-round tournament at Victoria Country Club.
