Edinburg Native Celedon Leads UT Pan American Men’s Golf to Fourth Place Finish

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – Rudy Celedon shot a final round 72 to lead the University of Texas-Pan American men’s golf team to a fourth place finish at the Bob Brown/Sportscare Classic, played at the Golf Club of New Orleans on Tuesday.

Celedon, a freshman from Edinburg, finished with a two-round total of 149 to place in a tie for 11^th overall.  His second round 72 tied for the best round on the team in the tournament.  Right behind him was Stephen Slaughter and Santiago DeLarrea, who tied for 15^th with two-round totals of 150.  Slaughter also had a final round 72, while DeLarrea finished with a 74.  Ricky Benavides took 24^th with a total of 152 (75-77).  Todd Grubert took 65^th place with a two-round total of 161.

Jose Campra of Jacksonville State took medallist honors, defeating Casey Crain of New Orleans in a playoff.  Both players finished with a two-round total of 142.  Angel Monguzzi of Jacksonville State and Chad Pulley of IUPUI tied for third with totals of 143.

Jacksonville State ran away from the field on day two, finishing with a total of 582 (298-284).  Jackson State took second with a 597, Tulane was third with a 600 and UTPA finished fourth 601.

The Broncs will return to action in just six days when they compete in the Moe O’Brien Invitational in Lake Charles, La. on March 19-20.  The Broncs will be looking to improve on a 16^th place finish from last season at the event.
