Pan American Men’s Golf Wraps Up Play at the Crown Classic Tuesday LUFKIN,
TEXAS – The University of Texas-Pan American men’s golf team
finished 16th overall at the Crown Classic Golf Tournament,
played at the Crown Colony Country Club on Tuesday.
The tournament was cut from three rounds to two due to weather. UTPA shot
a final round 323 to take 16th place overall with a two-round
total of 633. Arkansas-Little
Rock took first place in the team competition with a 591.
UT-Arlington was second with a 596, while Southeastern Louisiana
was third with a 598. Individually
the Broncs were led by James Aleman, who finished 50th with a
157 (78-79). Right behind
him was Ricky Benavides, who shot a 158, including a first-round 75.
Stephen Slaughter tied for 61st with a 159, David
Martinez was 76th with a 161 and Santiago DeLarrea was 82nd
with a 163. The
individual medallist was decided in a playoff between three players.
Southwest Texas State’s Gabe Reynolds took the win in the
playoff, edging out Manuel Bermudez of Arkansas-Little Rock and Thad
Schaeffer of Louisiana-Monroe. All
three players shot 144’s for the tournament. The Broncs return to action in just one week when they travel to Calhoun, Louisiana, for the Louisiana Tech Invitational on October 23-24. |
