HOUSTON, TX–The University of Texas-Pan American track and field team turned in some good performances at their second meet of the season, the Houston Invitational Saturday. No team scores were kept.
Two UTPA athletes broke school records.
Amy Moses won the 20-pound weight throw with a school record toss of 53 feet,
nine inches. Meanwhile Rachel Drury set a school record when she cleared 10
feet, six inches in the pole vault.
In the 35-pound weight throw, Isaac
Ybarra was second with a throw of 51 feet, nine inches, while Robert Lopez was
third with a toss of 50 feet, 3 ½ inches. Marlin Manley finished fourth in the
high jump, and his jump of six feet, seven inches was just an inch off the
school record. Valerie Partch was second in the high jump at 5-5 3/4, while
Rashaad Ben ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.35 seconds.
“We had some kids step up and do
better than they did last week, and we want to continue to see improvement,”
said UTPA Head Coach Ricky Vaughn. “We broke a couple of school records, and
any time you break a school record good things are happening. Hopefully, we can
keep things going in a positive direction and our people can keep getting better
and better.”
