Assistant
Coach Kate Galligan
Another
Nebraska connection came to fruition for the University of Texas-Pan
American women’s basketball team when Kate Galligan joined the staff
as an assistant coach for the 2001-2002 season. Galligan joins the Lady
Broncs after serving three seasons as an assistant coach at the University
of Pittsburgh of the Big East Conference.
"Kate will
certainly enhance our staff with her ability in coaching the
perimeter
players," said Head Coach Karin Nicholls. "She was a
well-prepared player in college. The level of commitment she possessed as a player will help as she challenges our young
women in reaching their goals."
A four-year starter for the University of Nebraska between 1992 and 1996,
Galligan played three of her years while Nicholls was an assistant coach.
She earned second team All-Big Eight honors, and was thrice a First
Team All-Academic All-Big Eight selection.
Galligan
began her coaching career at her alma mater. After spending one season
as an Administrative Assistant for the Huskers, Galligan moved on to the
University of Nebraska-Kearney, where she served as a Graduate Assistant
Coach. She was also the administrative director for the UNK All-Star
Loper Basketball Camps.
"I am very excited to be part of a program
that is building and on the rise," said Galligan. "I am most
excited about coaching with people I am familiar with who share similar
philosophies. I will be looking forward to entering a new stage of my
coaching career with regards to recruiting."
