GOODEN SIGNS WITH LADY BRONC BASKETBALL TEAM
EDINBURG,
TX–The University of Texas-Pan American women’s basketball team has
signed another recruit for the upcoming season. Stacey
Gooden, a 6-0 forward from J.F. Dobie High School in Houston, has signed
with the Lady Broncs. She will join the team as a freshman, and will
have four years of eligibility. Gooden earned
first team All-District honors as both a junior and as a senior. She was
named to the All-Tournament Team at the Pasadena Independent school
District Tournament, was named her team’s Senior Most Valuable Player,
and also earned the Hustle Award. A fine
student, Gooden was named Academic All-State by the Texas Association of
Basketball Coaches. She was named to the National Honor Society, was
named a University Interscholastic League Scholar, and also received
Dobie’s Trailblazer Award. “Stacey is
a tremendous athlete,” said UTPA Head Coach Carol Russell. “She is a
very hard workers, and her work ethic alone will help us out
tremendously next year. She’s a left-handed post player, and she can
hit shots in the high post, as well as play with her back to the basket.
She’s very versatile, and runs the floor very well. Stacey comes from
a great family, and she’s a very good student. She’ll help bring a
