UT-Pan American Win Lady Bronc Golf Classic, Odale Gets First Win as Head Coach
EDINBURG -- The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Bronc Golf Squad shot a final round 335 to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Centenary College and win the Lady Bronc Golf Classic Thursday at Cimarron Country Club.
The Lady Broncs opened the spring with a victory on their home course, their first this season and the first for Barb Odale as Lady Bronc Head Coach. The Lady Broncs turned in a team score of 992. The Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came in second place with a team score of 1044. Centenary College rounded out the group with a team score of 1075.
Jamie McInturff led the Lady Broncs with a three-round total of 239. McInturff fired an opening round 76, followed by a 79 and a final round score of 84. Jeannie Lane of UTPA came in second place overall with a score of 246. Lane was a model of consistency, shooting an 82 in each of the three rounds. Lady Bronc Tootie Lauzon brought home third place, just one stroke behind Lane, with a 247. Alejandra Gutierrez placed fifth overall with a three-round score of 260. Melissa Schaefer shot a 265, good enough for seventh place. Playing as an individual, Adriana Espinosa totaled 276 strokes in three rounds.
Melissa Newman-Gillespie turned in the low score for TAMCC. Newman-Gillespie shot a 257 to place her fourth overall. Marla Frederick, of Centenary, finished in a tie for eighth with teammate Anna Walls with scores of 267.
The Lady Broncs tee it up next at the Oral Roberts Invitational on March 27-28 in Tulsa, OK.
