UT Pan American Women’s Golf Announces Signing of Two Players for 2000-01 Season
EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American women’s golf team announced on Monday the signing of Oklahoma City native Melissa Head and Wortham, Texas, native Crystal Frazier to letters of intent for the 2000-01 season.
Head, who has attended Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City, was a four-time all-conference pick, an all-city selection and earned all-state honors as well. She saved her best for last, winning five tournaments, while finishing second in four others as a senior for PCNHS last year. A strong student as well as athlete, Head was a member of the National Honor Society at PCNHS.
Frazier comes to UTPA from Wortham High School where she was a strong all-around athlete, lettering in five different sports. She was a first-team all-district selection and was co-MVP in her district as a senior. She won two tournaments and finished second in four others as a senior. Another strong student-athlete, Frazier was also named first team All-Academic for her work in the classroom. Not only was she a strong golfer, but was also named honorable mention all-state in volleyball. She competed in basketball, tennis and softball in addition to golf and volleyball.
“Melissa is one of the top recruits in the region and will really help to lead our team to the next level,” said UTPA Women’s Golf Coach Barb Odale. “Crystal is also a very solid recruit and will add much-needed depth to our team after the graduation of three players from last year’s team.”
The pair are the first two signees for first-year head coach Odale, who led the Broncs to four top-10 finishes, including the title at the Lady Bronc Classic in her first year at the helm of the UTPA squad. More signings are expected in the near future for the team.
