Breakthrough Performance for the UT-Pan American Lady Broncs Golf Squad

PORTLAND, TX- The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Bronc Golf Squad is currently in second place after day one of the inaugural Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Invitational at Northshore Country Club in Portland, TX.

Perennial junior college powerhouse Midland College is leading the tournament after compiling a team score of 324.  UTPA turned in a team score of 333, and found themselves in second place.  The Lady Broncs are the leading NCAA Division I program. Wyoming is one stroke behind UTPA.

Alejandra Gutierrez, currently tied for third, is leading the way for the Lady Broncs turning in an opening round score of 80.  Tootie Lauzon fired an 81, good enough for a tie for seventh.  Jamie McInturff continues to play solid golf ending the day in 17th with a score of 85.  Jeannie Lane is tied for 26th with a score of 87.  Adriana Espinoza shot a 90 and is in 38th.

“This is our breakthrough tournament,” according to Head Coach Barb Odale.  “We set it up last week by shooting well, even though we didn’t place well.  They really want it.  The girls are ready to win.  They didn’t want to come off of the course today.“

The final round of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational will be played on Tuesday Morning.
