UT-Pan American Women's Golf Brings Home Second at Corpus Christi Invitational

PORTLAND, TEXAS -- The UTPA women's golf team brought home second place, among competing NCAA Division I schools, at the first-ever Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Invitational, played at the Northshore Country Club in Portland.

The University of Wyoming earned team medalist honors in the NCAA Division I category.  Wyoming posted a 660 after two rounds of play.  Midland College was the overall winner, compiling a score of 639.  The Broncs turned in a team score of 675 to finish second among major colleges.  Overall UTPA placed sixth.

Midland College boasted the top two overall finishers, Linzi Morton (150) and Pam Mackay (154).  Jordan Lintz of Wyoming earned individual medalist honors in the Division I category.  Lintz fired a pair of 78's for a combined score of 156.  For the first time this season the Broncs had two golfers finish in the top ten overall.  Jamie McInturff and Alejandra Gutierrez ended deadlocked in ninth place.  Each woman shot an 80 and an 85, giving them 165 total strokes.  Tootie Lauzon (167) was two strokes off that pace, as she tied for 16th.  Jeannie Lane and Adriana Espinoza turned in scores of 178 and 186, placing them 39th and 53rd, respectively.

"This was a great tournament to be at," expressed Head Coach Barb Odale.  The girls were really pumped up to play.  We're starting to come together, to think and play as a team."

This was the final tournament of the fall for the Lady Broncs.  The Lady Broncs will tee it up again this spring.
