CORTES SIGNS WITH LADY BRONCS
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American
women’s golf team has added its newest member. Daniela Cortes of Aguascalientes, Mexico and
Colegio Portal will join the Lady Broncs this fall. She will enter
Texas-Pan American as a freshman, with four years of eligibility. Cortes, who graduated from high school two years
ago, has been living in the United States for the past two seasons,
working as a nanny, learning English, and working on her golf game. She
finished third at a national tournament in Guadalajara in 1999, finished
first in the Central Mexico Tournament in March, 2000, finished fifth at
the South Texas Junior Classic two years ago, and is ranked in the top
ten in Mexico. “Daniela is very long off the tee, and when I saw
her at the South Texas Junior Classic, she finished behind three girls
who are now playing golf for top ten schools,” said UTPA Head Coach
Barb Odale. “She is a strong student. She was offered academic
scholarships to study in Mexico, but she turned them down for the
opportunity to come here and play golf and go to school.” WG-02-02051402 |
