The Lady Bronc Classic
The Broncs will have a tough time repeating their 1999 tournament finish in which they took the the team title for the first time in the five-year history of the tournament. The Lady Broncs ran away from the field, finishing 52 strokes ahead of second place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. For the second time in the tournament’s history a Lady Bronc took home medalist honors when Jaime McInturff took top honors with a three-round total of 239. The Broncs made it a clean sweep of the top with McInturff’s teammates Jeannie Lane and Tootie Lauzon finishing second and third, respectively. "I’m very excited about the strength of the field for this year’s tournament," said Odale. "It’s a great opportunity to showcase this area to our regional competition. I expect the girls to be competitive and ready to play when they tee it up on February 6th." The only team to ever win the tournament title more than once is the University of Texas-El Paso, which won the inaugural tournament in 1995 and the 1998 edition. UTEP is also the only team besides UTPA to have two different individuals take home medallist honors with Nicco Chilek in 1995 and Kristen MacLaren in 1998. In 1996 Hawaii won the team title, while UTPA’s Nancy Verastegui won the individual title. In 1999, led by assistant coach Barb Odale, Sam Houston State won the team title. For the fourth straight year the Club at Cimmaron in Mission, Texas, will host the tournament. UTEP’s MacLaren holds the individual stroke record with a 225, while UTEP holds the team stroke mark with a 937. Both records were set in 1998. The first two editions of the Lady Bronc Classic were held at the Treasure Hills Country Club in Harlingen. 1995 1996 1998 1999 2000 |
