Lady Bronc Golfers Come up Short at BYU Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, UT – As a result of an untimely injury, the Lady Bronc Golf team was forced to officially withdraw from the team competition at the BYU Dixie Classic.  Melissa Head, a freshman from Oklahoma City, OK was forced to withdraw from competition as a result of a neck injury. 

However, the remaining Lady Broncs were able to finish.  Junior Adriana Espinoza earned the highest place amongst the Lady Broncs carding a three-round total of 257 tying for 83rd place overall.  Teammate Itziar Unanue fired a three-round total of 264 earning a 92nd place finish while Crystal Frazier finished 99th with a 272 total. 

Hanna-Riikka Kuitunen of Northern Arizona University and Carrie Summerhays of BYU carded identical 226’s good enough for a share of medallist honors.  Kuitunen carded rounds of 72, 80 and 74 while Summerhays shot 76, 73 and 77.  Finishing in 3rd place, one stro9ke behind the winners was Emilie Arnaud of the University of San Francisco.  USF led in the team standings from start to finish shooting single round totals of 297, 304 and 317 for a total of 918, 15 strokes ahead of the University of Idaho and BYU who shot identical 932’s.  

The Lady Broncs return to action April 19-20, 2001 as they travel to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Elkins Lake Invitational.
