UT-Pan American Women’s Tennis Falls to Sam Houston State, 8-1

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS – Sam Houston State swept all six singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches to defeat the University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team 8-1, in action Friday afternoon.

The Broncs were hampered by the fact that they only had four healthy players and had to forfeit two singles matches and one doubles match.  The lone win turned in by the Lady Broncs was at number one doubles as Maria Fernandez and Sagnite Garcia defeated Shari Gamarnik and Emilie Langlois, 8-6.  At number two doubles the Broncs nearly pulled out another win, Kristen McElligott and Kristen Wooten slipped past Kristine Getchell and Linda Rodriguez, 8-4.

With the loss, the Lady Broncs fell to 0-3 on the season, while Sam Houston won it’s first match of the season and is 1-3.  The Lady Broncs will face off against Centenary and Stephen F. Austin State Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
