LORMAN, MISS. – The University of Texas-Pan American Women’s Tennis team picked up its first win of the season, a 5-4 victory over Alcorn State in tennis action Friday afternoon.

The team’s split the six singles tilts and the match came down to doubles.  Maria Fernandez and Sagnite Garcia, who both posted singles wins as well, defeated Katerina Hrda and Lisa Forrest at number one doubles, 8-1.  Mireya Villareal and Marissa Guzman then sealed the win for UTPA with an 8-3 victory over Dana Childs and Mecka McKinley at number three doubles.

Fernandez defeated Hrda, 6-3, 7-6, at number one singles, Garcia defeated Forrest, 6-2, 6-1, at number two singles and Linda Rodriguez took a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, decision against Childs at number five singles.

UTPA will return to action on Saturday, March 25th, when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5:30 p.m.
