Pedro Perata Named New Assistant Tennis Coach at UT-Pan American
EDINBURG-The University of Texas Pan American announced the hiring of Pedro Perata as the Graduate Assistant Tennis Coach on Friday.
A native of Peru, Perata comes to UTPA from St. Louis University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Finance in May of 1999. He also was a two-year letter winner in tennis at St. Louis. Perata played two seasons at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, TX, prior to his time at SLU.
While at the University of
St. Louis, Perata competed in the top slots in both singles and doubles
and was nationally ranked as a teenager in Peru. He also held the
position of Assistant Coach at the Rolland Garros Tennis Academy in Lima,
Peru.
“I really enjoy working at
the college level,” said Perata, “I’m looking forward to the opportunity
to help build a program here. I want to help take this program to
the top level in Texas.”
Perata said that he is also concerned with helping the students excel in the classroom. “They are student-athletes not athlete-students,” added Perata. Perata is currently enrolled in the MBA program at UTPA.
