BRONCS DROP TWO
ENNIS, TX –The University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team dropped a pair of matches here Saturday. Playing indoors due to inclement weather, UTPA lost to Arkansas State and Texas-Arlington by identical 7-0 scores. The Lady Broncs also played without number one player Celine Merlini (Vevey, Switzerland/ Cessev HS), who had to return to Switzerland due to a family emergency. “We played hard, but it was a tough situation,” said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. “It was very hard playing two good teams without Celine. In doubles, everyone played with am partner that they hadn’t played with all year. Texas-Arlington was the best team we’ve played all year. We played hard, the matches were closer than the scores indicated. We just were beaten by better teams.” The Lady Broncs fell to 5-12. Texas-Arlington improved to 8-6, Arkansas State to 11-6. UTPA will conclude their trip with a match against Arkansas-Little Rock Sunday.
