LADY BRONCS ADVANCE AT LAMAR

BEAUMONT, TX – Five of six University of Texas-Pan American singles entrants and two of three Lady Bronc doubles teams advanced in consolation round action on the first day of the Lady Cardinal Invitational Tournament at the Cardinal Courts at Lamar University Saturday.

In flight A singles action, Elisabet Mateos lost to Ivonne Bresler of McNeese State, 6-2, 6-1, then defeated Christina Mancheno of Lee, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9. Celine Merlini defeated Magali Risoleo of McNeese State, 3-6, 6-1, 10-6, then lost to Vinca Rampen of Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-3, 6-1.

In flight B singles, Kathryn Waslen of UTPA lost to Sissy Giannoallpoulou of Lee, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5, then defeated Diala Ammar of Sam Houston State, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Alana Breen lost to Somer McFarlain of McNeese State, 6-1, 6-3, then lost to Carina Hultquist of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-2, 6-0.

In flight C singles, Ana Pena of the Lady Broncs lost to Alana Fenner of Lamar, 6-2, 6-3, then defeated Jayme Holmstrom of Sam Houston State, 6-2, 6-2. Evie Nickelson lost to Sandra Wolfe of Stephen F. Austin, 6-1, 6-2, then defeated Nicole Solis of Lee, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Jessica Brown lost to Clair Gosse of McNeese State, 6-4, 6-3, and to Kim Jordan of Sam Houston State, 6-2, 6-0. 

In flight A doubles, Breen and Waslen lost to Kristen McElligot and Amandine Hubert of ULL, 8-2, then defeated Giannoallpoulou and Mancheno of Lee, 8-6. In flight B doubles, Pena and Brown of UTPA lost 
to Robin Houston and Ashley Johnson of Stephen F. Austin, 8-6,  then defeated Holmstrom and 
Jordan of SHSU, 9-7.

The tournament will conclude Sunday.
