PENA AND BROWN CONSOLATION CHAMPS AT LAMAR

BEAUMONT, TX –Ana Pena and Jessica Brown of the University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team claimed the consolation championship in flight B doubles as the Lady Cardinal Invitational Tournament concluded Sunday at the Cardinal Courts at Lamar University. No team scores were recorded.

Pena and Brown won by defeating Emily Voss and Tracy Moore of Stephen F. Austin, 8-0, in the consolation championship match in flight B doubles.

Several other Lady Broncs also won. In flight A singles action, Elisabet Mateos lost in the semi-finals of the consolation round to Ivette Andrade of Sam Houston State, 6-3, 6-0.  Celine Merlini lost her consolation round match to Ivonne Bresler of McNeese State in three sets.

In flight B singles, Kathryn Waslen of UTPA lost her consolation match to Veronica Castillo of Sam Houston State, 2-6, 6-1, 10-2. Alana Breen won a consolation match against Lara Alcobendas of Lee, 6-3, 6-3.

In flight C singles, Ana Pena of the Lady Broncs defeated Allison Lui of McNeese State in consolation play, 6-3, 6-4. Eve Nickelson of UTPA defeated Kim Jordan of Sam Houston State, 6-1,6-1.

In flight A doubles, Breen and Waslen lost to Jessica Rizelia and Carina Hultquist of Southeastern Louisiana, 8-3. 

UTPA will return to action at the Rice Invitational next weekend.
