LADY BRONCS SPLIT AT RICE

HOUSTON, TX –Several members of the University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team were victorious as the Rice Tennis Classic concluded at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium Sunday.

In the flight C singles seventh place match, Ana Pena of the Lady Broncs defeated Christion Kincannon of Arkansas, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.

In flight A doubles action, Celine Merlini and Elisabet Mateos lost to Karen Chao and Erika Villalobos of Rice, 8-2, then lost to Annie Goodrich and Mindy Ko of Rice by default. Kathryn Waslen and Alana Breen lost to Judith Hagedorn and Kylie Wallis of Rice, 8-6.

 In the flight B doubles seventh place match, the Lady Broncs’ Eve Nickelson teamed up with Tea Spirta of UTEP, and defeated Ana Pena and Jessica Brown of UTPA, 9-8.

The Lady Broncs will return to action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at Fort Worth, TX in two weeks.

DOUBLES-FLIGHT A-Waslen and Breen lost to Katie Ruckert and Ziva Grasic, Texas, 8-0; lost to Rose and Brandi Watts, Minnesota, 8-4; lost to Judith Hagedorn and Kylie Wallis, Rice, 8-6.
Merlini and Mateos defeated Callie Dand and Elisa Bjorklund, UTEP, 8-4; lost to Gonzales and Yasmin Fisher, Rice, 8-5; lost to Karen Chao and Erika Villalobos, Rice, 8-2; lost to Annie Goodrich and Mindy Ko, Rice, default.
