Immediate Release: March 31, 2002 LADY BRONCS
FALL TO UALR
ARLINGTON, TX –The University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team lost to Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-0, at the University of North Texas Sunday. Only the singles were played due to time constraints. Freshman Ana Pena (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe HS) was the only Lady Bronc to win a set. She split sets with Layla Thome at number four singles, then lost the match in a super-tiebreaker. “It was a tough time to play three of the better teams we’ve played all year,” said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. “We played hard, but we played three very good teams, and we were undermanned. Hopefully, this will build some character and help us in the future.” UTPA was without top player Celine Merlini (So. Vevey, Swtizerland/Cessev HS), who had to return to Switzerland due to a family emergency. The Lady Broncs fell to 5-13, while the Trojans improved to 13-7. UTPA will return to action when they host an exhibition match against Lee College Friday. ARKANSAS-LITTLE
