Merlini Wins, But UT-San Antonio Defeats UT Pan American in Women’s Tennis, 6-1

SAN ANTONIO – Celine Merlini won her 13th match of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the University of Texas-San Antonio defeated the University of Texas-Pan American, 6-1, in women’s tennis action Monday.

Merlini, a freshman from Vevey, Switzerland, improved to 13-4 on the season with a tough, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Svenja Fuhrig at number one singles.  She has won her last three matches in a row.  After that, it was all Roadrunners.  UT-San Antonio, one of the top teams in the region, won the other five singles matches in straight sets and swept the two doubles matches played.

The Lady Broncs, who fell to 3-2 on the season, will return to action on Friday, February 9th, when they host Nicholls State at 12 noon.  They will also take on Texas Lutheran at the Cox Tennis Center at 5 p.m. on Friday.
