UTPA Women's Tennis Defeats Alcorn State 4-2

EDINBURG, TX - The University of Texas-Pan American women’s tennis team defeated Alcorn State 4-2 at the Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg. With the win the Lady Broncs improve to 7-12 overall.

UTPA’s freshman sensation Celine Merlini continued her strong play at the No. 1 singles as she topped Alcorn’s Georgia Bushell 6-0, 6-1. Teammate Eve Nickelson defeated Sandra Kenaveney 7-6, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles. The Lady Broncs’ Mireya Villarreal defeated Alcorn State’s Dana Childs 6-1, 6-1 at the five singles position while UTPA’s Erica Espinosa defeated LaKendra Jones 6-0, 6-0 at six singles.

The Lady Broncs are back in action on Saturday as they battle in-state rivals Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m.
