Batted .257 as a freshman during the 2003 season......Started 44 of the Broncs' 54 games, 41 at second base, and appeared in 48.......Ranked second on the team with 23 walks......Was third with 13 stolen bases......Doubled and tripled against Texas-San Antonio April 23rd.....Had three hits against New Mexico State May 17th......A four-sport participant at FORNEY HIGH SCHOOL, Gilmer starred in baseball, football, basketball and track and field……Stole 45 bases to lead the state of Texas during his senior season….Batted .447 as a senior with three home runs and 40 runs batted in……Scored 50 runs…….Earned All-State honors.....Played shortstop, second base, and center field……Member of the state championship 4 X 400 meter relay team…..A good student, earned a 3.2 grade-point average.
