BRONCS SET FALL PRACTICE
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's baseball team has set its fall practice schedule.
Practice begins this week, and will culminate with the annual Green and White game, which will be held at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
The Broncs will practice six days a week. Practice will generally start at 3:00 p.m. each weekday and 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
With 14 newcomers on a roster of 30 players, Texas-Pan American Head Coach Willie Gawlik said that he will use the fall to evaluate his team. "We're going to play a lot of intra-squad games, and that will give us the opportunity to see what adjustments we will have to make," said Gawlik. "We'll be continuing to develop our fundamental skills. This will give us an opportunity to see our new players develop, especially our freshmen. It also gives our players the opportunity to see where they're at. Our goal for the fall is to try to get each position player about 40 or 50 at bats, and have each pitcher throw about 20 innings."
The Green and White game will be played under game conditions. "We'll try to split up the teams as evenly as possible, and play a regular game," said Gawlik. "We'll have umpires, dress in game uniforms, and try to make it a special event for the players. It'll be very competitive. Everybody will get to play in the Green and White game."
