Edinburg, Texas - Marco Garza (Jr./Mission, Texas/Sharyland HS) has been named the NCAA Division I Player of the Week for March 23. The award is voted on by the Sports Information Offices of the Division I Independents; Hawaii-Hilo, IPFW, NYIT, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTPA and Utah Valley State. This is the first time that the Broncs have won the award this season.
Garza hit .429 (9-21) with a double, scored eight runs and drove in
three runs as Texas-Pan American was 2-3 last week. In a 12-10 loss on March
20 to #27 Oral Roberts in 13 innings, Garza was 7-for-8, scored three
runs and drove in two. He broke the school record for hits in a game and tied
for third on the NCAA single-game list. He was 1-for-2 and scored two runs in
a 4-1 win over Oral Roberts on March 21.
