Edinburg, Texas - Texas-Pan American will do battle with #3 Texas in Austin, March 30. The Longhorns lead the series 30-6 having won both games last year, 7-3 and 6-5. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

Texas-Pan American (14-19) is looking to snap a five-game losing streak. On offense, the big bats have been Louie Alamia (So./Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg North HS) and Marco Garza (Jr./Mission, Texas/Sharyland HS). Alamia has five doubles, four triples, four home runs, has scored 30 runs, driven in 21 and is hitting .356. He has currently reached base in his last 44 games played. Garza has five doubles, one triple, has stolen 10 bases, has scored 27 runs, driven in 16 and is hitting .325.

On the mound, Juan Saenz (Jr./Mission, Texas/Mission HS) and Justin Bogy (Sr./West Columbia, Texas/West Columbia HS) are 1-2 in victories for the Broncs. Saenz is 4-1 with 40 strike outs and a 3.32 E.R.A. in 40 and two-third innings. Bogy is 3-2 with 13 strike outs and a 3.00 E.R.A. in 27 innings. The bull pen duo of Chad Linder (Fr./Reklaw, Texas/Rusk HS) and Ricky Broyles (Jr./Longview, Texas/Northeast Texas CC) have done a fine job. Combined, they are 1-3 with eight saves, 22 strike outs and a 3.30 E.R.A. in 30 innings.

Texas (28-4) is coming off an 11-3 win over Oklahoma State on March 28. Offensively, the Longhorns are led by Carson Kainer and Curtis Thigpen. Kainer has three doubles, one home run, has scored nine runs, driven in five and is hitting .415 in 16 games. Thigpen has 10 doubles, three home runs, has scored 25 runs, driven in 21 and is hitting .376.

On the mound, the aces are J.P. Howell and Justin Simmons. Howell is 6-1 with 59 strike outs and a 2.17 E.R.A. in 49 and two-third innings. Simmons is 6-1 with 25 strike outs and a 3.61 E.R.A. in 47 and one-third innings.

If we can throw strikes, then our defense will be ready to make plays. When that happens, our offense feels more relaxed and things begin to happen. We are going to just get out and play hard."
