Edinburg, Texas - Texas-Pan American (11-10) brings a four game winning streak into its series against Texas-San Antonio (8-6) this weekend. The first game of the series is scheduled to start on Friday, the 12 at 7:00 p.m. with the second game going at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday the 13th. The series concludes with a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday the 14th.
The Broncs have been on a tear as of late with four straight wins, five wins in their last seven games and have swept the last two series vs. Arkansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Louie Alamia (So./Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg North HS) has the hot bat with five doubles, three triples, has scored 18 runs, driven in 13 runs while hitting .418. He also has an 18 game hitting streak and has reached base safely in his last 32 games. Marco Garza (Jr./Mission, Texas/Sharyland HS) had a strong series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as he drove in four runs and hit .625 (5-of-8). For the season, he has 13 runs, 12 RBI's and is hitting .317.
On the mound, over the last four games, UTPA has given up 23 hits, 10 runs and walked just 13 batters while striking out 22 for a 2.38 E.R.A. Opponents are hitting just .192 and the bullpen has gone 11 and one-third innings without giving up a run. On the season, Juan Saenz (Jr./Mission, Texas/Mission HS) is 3-0 with 23 strikeouts and a 2.01 E.R.A. Tommy Sorden (Sr./Austin, Texas/Navarro College) is 2-1 with a 3.37 E.R.A. and had a complete game win over Arkansas on March 7. Texas-San Antonio is coming off a runner-up finish at the Alamo City Classic. The Roadrunners lost to #7 Notre Dame in the championship game after they had beaten the Irish, 17-9 in pool play. Sam Mitchell leads the offense with four doubles, two home runs, nine runs and 14 RBI's while hitting .395. Ryan Crew has three doubles, three home runs, 11 runs and 12 RBI's with a .328 average while J.R. Voyles is hitting .325 with 10 runs and 10 RBI's. The ace of the staff is Klae Boehme who is 3-1 with 32 strikeouts and a 2.70 E.R.A.
