Tucson, Arizona - Arizona (19-15-1) jumped to an early lead and never looked back in its 12-5 win over Texas-Pan American (16-26). The Broncs and Wildcats will go at it again, Saturday, April 17. The game is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. CST.

After a scoreless first inning from both teams, Arizona knocked out two runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Texas-Pan American got on the scoreboard. Marco Garza (Jr./Mission, Texas/Sharyland HS) led off with a double down the left field line. Following a strike out, Matt Sisk (Sr./Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights HS) singled to left field to score Garza. A double to left center field by Matt Eichel (Jr./Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine HS) moved Sisk to third. A ground out to shortstop scored Sisk and pushed Eichel to third. John Lopez (Jr./Mission, Texas/Mission HS) then singled past the shortstop to score Eichel and make it 8-3.

The Wildcats would score a run in the bottom of the fifth and the Broncs would come right back with a run in the top of the sixth. Three more runs over the seventh and eighth innings sealed the game for Arizona.

For UTPA, Garza was 3-for-4 and scored a run, Sisk was 2-for-4, scored two runs and drove in one and Louie Alamia (So./Edinburg, Texas/Edinburg North HS) singled to extend his reaching base streak to 51 games. Justin Bogy (Sr./West Columbia, Texas/West Columbia HS) gave up nine hits, eight runs and struck out one batter in four innings to fall to 3-3.

For Arizona, Nick Hundley was 2-for-4, scored three runs and drove in two runs, Trevor Crowe was 2-for-4 and scored two runs and Brad Boyer was 2-for-4, scored two runs and drove in two runs. John Meloan gave up 10 hits, five runs and struck out 10 batters in eight innings to improve to 3-0.

"Arizona just did a good job of hitting our pitchers," said head coach Willie Gawlik. "I feel that we didn't pitch a bad game, it's just Arizona has a good hitting team. In addition, we made three errors today that cost us about three or four runs. We had 10 hits but just couldn't get their starter in trouble. When your opponent strikes out 10 batters with no walks in eight innings, you'll be hard pressed to win."
