BRONCS FALL TO 22ND RANKED AGGIES

COLLEGE STATION, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American baseball team dropped a 14-2 decision to 22nd ranked Texas A&M at Olsen Field Friday evening. With the loss, Texas-Pan American fell to 9-9, while the Aggies improved to 13-4.

Texas A&M took control from the outset, scoring four runs in the first inning, one in the second, and three in the fourth. Matt Alexander capped a seven run rally in the fifth inning, driving a grand slam home run to right field to give the Aggies a 14-0 lead.

The Broncs scored their only runs in the sixth inning. Freshman outfielder Otis Powers (Brownsville, TX/Rivera HS) singled up the middle with one out, and moved to second on an infield hit by outfielder Jerome McCoy (Fort Worth, TX/Eastern Hills HS/ Northeast Texas CC). One out later, sophomore shortstop Marco Garza (Mission, TX/Sharyland HS) singled to left field to load the bases, and sophomore first baseman Tony Ortiz's (Fort Worth, TX/Nolan HS) single up the middle scored Powers and McCoy to put Texas-Pan American on the scoreboard.

Senior starting pitcher Travis Parker (Brownsville, TX/Homer Hanna HS/UT-Brownsville) went four and two-thirds innings for the Broncs, and took the loss to drop to 1-2. Freshman pitcher Robert Martinez (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg HS) allowed no hits in one and one-third innings in relief. Ortiz went one-for-three with two runs batted in. Sophomore outfielder Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) recorded UTPA's only hit over the first five innings, on an infield single in the second inning.

"The game got out of hand quickly, because we just couldn't stop them," said UTPA Head Coach Willie Gawlik. "They hit the ball all over the yard, and everything they hit was in the gap, or somewhere where we couldn't get to it."

Logan Kensing scattered five hits over six innings for the Aggies, striking out six. He earned the victory, improving to 4-1. Alexander went three-for-four with five runs batted in, scored three runs, and had a double and a home run.

The two teams will meet again at Olsen Field Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
