Release: Sunday, March 16, 2003 BRONCS PLACE FIVE ON UTPA/AL OGLETREE CLASSIC TEAM EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's baseball team placed five players on the All-Tournament team for the first annual UTPA/Al Ogletree Classic, which concluded Sunday evening at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Junior pitcher Tommy Sorden (Austin, TX/Bowie HS/Navarro College), freshman pitcher Aaron Guerra (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg HS), sophomore catcher Matt Eichel (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine HS), freshman outfielder Louie Alamia (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North GS) and senior outfielder Jerome McCoy (Fort Worth, TX/Eastern Hills HS/Northeast Texas CC) were among 17 players honored. Sorden earned the victory in the last game of the tournament, allowing four runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings while walking four and striking out 10 as the Broncs downed Iona, 9-8. Guerra allowed two runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings and was outdueled by tournament Most Valuable Player Ted Rowe in a 4-0 loss to Illinois Saturday night. Eichel was 3 for 11 with two RBIs and five runs scored in two games as a catcher and one as a designated hitter, McCoy hit. 429 in two games with a stolen base, one RBI and two runs scored, and Alamia was four for 11 with a stolen base and three runs scored. He hit in all three tournament games, and improved his hitting streak to 17 games, five short of the UTPA record.
