BRONCS
VISIT SW TEXAS, GAME
TIME CHANGED SATURDAY
EDINBURG,
TX—After taking several
days off following a three-game sweep against Iona last
weekend, The University of Texas-Pan American’s baseball team will return to
action when they visit Southwest Texas
State this week. The Broncs and Bobcats
will play Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
and Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
“We are looking forward
to playing again, since we haven’t played in a week,” said UTPA Head Coach Willie
Gawlik. “We had played seven games in nine days, so a break
was good for us, and we’ll be fresh and ready to go.”
Texas-Pan American and
Southwest Texas
State have met twice this season,
with the Broncs winning, 11-3, at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium on opening night
February 1st, and SWT returning the favor, 12-3, on the final day of the Round
Rock Express Classic at the Dell Diamond February 16th. The Broncs take a 14-13
overall record into the series. The Bobcats come into the series with a 9-16
record. SWT won three of four games last week, winning at Texas,
then taking two of three from McNeese
State.
“The first time we played
them, we did everything right, and the second time, they did everything right,
so we’re looking for a good series,” said Gawlik. “We haven’t seen them in a
month. Since they beat Texas and
took two of three from McNeese, they must be playing pretty well, but we’ve
been playing well also.”
Senior righthander Travis Parker (Brownsville,
TX/Hanna HS/UT-Brownsville) and freshman righthander Aaron Guerra (Edinburg,
TX/Edinburg HS) will pitch for the Broncs.
After visiting Southwest
Texas, UTPA will return home to host Dallas Baptist Friday and Saturday.
Friday’s game will begin at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s game, which was to have started
at 7:00 p.m. has been rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. to assist DBU’s travel plans.
