BRONCS SIGN GREGORY
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's baseball team has signed its second recruit this spring.
Righthanded pitcher Nick Gregory of Mesquite, Texas, North Mesquite High School, North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas, and Angelina Junior College in Lufkin, Texas, will join the Broncs this fall. He will enter as a junior, with two years of eligibility.
Gregory was 4-3 this season for Angelina, with a 2.64 earned run average. He allowed only 50 hits in 58 innings, walked 17 batters and struck out 36, while yielding 31 runs, 17 of which were earned. As a freshman, Gregory was 5-3 with a 1.65 ERA at North Central, walking just 15 batters and striking out 45 in 55 innings. At North Mesquite High School, Gregory earned All-District honors in each of his four seasons.
"We're pleased to sign Nick," said UTPA Head Coach Willie Gawlik. "Nick throws strikes, he's always around the strike zone, and he won't walk very many people. He averaged only about two walks per nine innings, and he had a good ERA. We know he has good control, and he'll get out there and compete, which will be keys to his success."
Gregory joins Philip Rodriguez of Edinburg North High School and Edinburg, Texas, Zach Smith of Sanger High School in Sanger, Texas, Ricky Glazier of Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas, Ryan Grimet of Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas, Brian Ballew of Channelview High School in Channelview, Texas, and Ryne Foster of Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, Texas in joining Texas-Pan American for next fall.
